Business idea

"The Business Start Up course was the most comprehensive training I have ever received.

Having already wasted literally thousands of £'s on other course I was naturally sceptical. However, after the first hour I knew I was onto a winner!

The section that related to 'generating sustainable sales' was the best part. I never knew it was so easy to make a sale and I now have the right skills to take my business to the next level"

The Business Idea - How to get started

Take a look at any business around you. Whether it be on the Internet or the high street, in most cases, that business started from nothing. Look at Google for example – a simple business idea that has grown to be one of the most successful businesses in the world. In fact, Google now enjoys a turnover of millions of pounds every day! That business idea came from nothing and was turned into an online phenomenon.

The first step in finding the right business idea is to ask yourself the following questions:

1. What am I good at?

2. What do I enjoy doing?

3. What are my experiences?

Once you have the answers to the above questions then your business idea won't be too far behind.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when considering which business to start up is that they choose something they have absolutely no idea of. Generally they get carried away with the thrill of 'running a business' and this can be potentially damaging.

It is very important that you carry out plenty of research before committing to your business idea. How do you know that it will work? Are you sure there's a market for your business idea? True entrepreneurs are usually 95% certain their idea will work before they commit time, resources and finance to the project.

Your business idea is usually right under your nose. Let me give you an example - Richard McMunn is a successful Business entrepreneur who started his own careers information website from his cellar in Maidstone, Kent during 2005. When deciding upon the right business idea for him, he started by asking the three questions which are listed above.

1. What was he good at?

Richard has served 17 years as a Firefighter. During his time in this profession he had spent plenty of time training other Firefighters and also sitting on recruitment interview panels. Therefore, he had plenty of experience in coaching, mentoring and interviewing skills.

2. What did he enjoy doing?

Richard was also a keen musician and part time artist. He played the drums and piano and he also enjoyed creating the off painting. At school he had achieved a B grade GCSE in Art. Therefore, there was evidence to suggest that Richard enjoyed being creative.

3. What were Richard's experiences?

In general, Richard's experiences centred around all of the above. He had a track record for being driven, enthusiastic, determined, creative and persistent. All of these qualities would help him to succeed at being an entrepreneur.

So, armed with all of the above information, Richard decided that his business idea would be to create a careers information website that would help people to achieve their goals..... and so How2become was born.
